The Ste Genevieve High School Competitive Speech and Debate team held their 3rd annual Debate Workshop Oct. 7 from 4 - 7 p.m. at Ste. Genevieve High School. Students and coaches from nine different school districts attended and learned more about how to succeed in competitive high school debate. This year, T.J. Lakin, professor at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, and Heather Walters and Kristen Stout, professors at Missouri State University in Springfield, attended to assist in the workshop sessions. Sessions included advanced argumentation and logical fallacies for experienced debate students and tips on writing cases and researching topics for beginning students. SGHS head coach is Christia Turner, and assistant coach is Bre Uzzell. Both coaches are looking forward to this competitive season.
