While attending Ste. Genevieve High School, Mr. Herman Baechle was his class president for three years, a student council member for four years, Student Body President his senior year, captain of the football team, and a member of the 1947 Missouri State Basketball Tournament qualifying team. Upon graduation from high school, Mr. Baechle received an athletic scholarship in football to the University of Missouri, where he starred for the legendary coach Don Faurot, and earned two varsity letters as a center, defensive guard, and linebacker. He was a member of the 1949 University of Missouri football team that played in the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Florida. Mr. Baechle was the president of the University of Missouri “M” Men’s Club. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture in 1952, and a Master of Arts degree in Marketing and Food Distribution from Michigan State University in 1958. Mr. Baechle also had a distinguished military career, serving in the Missouri National Guard from 1948-50, the Advanced Air Force ROTC at the University of Missouri from 1950-52, and upon graduation from the University of Missouri, became a Commissioned 2ndLieutenant in the United States Air Force from 1952-54. In civilian life, Mr. Baechle was a successful businessman in meat merchandizing for Kroger Foods, Inc., and later, helped found Prefco Distributors in Houston, Texas, where he retired as Vice President of Procurement in 2011. Mr. Herman Baechle and his wife, Margaret, live in Spring, Texas, and together they have six children: Peter, Cathi, Julie, Carl, Mary, and Sara.
