Ste. Genevieve R-II Celebrates 2020 Homecoming

This past week, Ste. Genevieve R-II celebrated its 2020 Homecoming Week! Monday through Friday, the schools held dress-up days, cheered on our sports teams and celebrated our dragon spirit at the football game and Homecoming dance.

The senior and junior girls were able to play their annual Powderpuff game on Wednesday evening, which ended with a score of 22-6, in favor of the seniors. Though the girls did not have the opportunity for practices beforehand, they enjoyed themselves and modeled unity through sportsmanship throughout the evening!

During the high school pep assembly Friday afternoon, Zachary Burr, son of Lisa and Kevin Burr, was crowned the Ste. Genevieve High School’s 2020 homecoming king. Other members of the court were: freshman attendant Russell Clayton, sophomore attendant Jacob Johns, junior attendant Tanner Weiler, king candidate Bret Bieser, king candidate Chaytin Lea, king candidate Payton Matthews, king candidate Anthony Nash and king candidate Landon Rose.

Ste. Genevieve High School took on St. Pius for a 59-28 win on Friday night! Emma Johns, daughter of daughter of Jeffrey and Angela Johns, was crowned the Ste. Genevieve High School’s 2020 homecoming queen during the coronation ceremony at halftime. Other members of the court were: freshman attendant Hope Schmelzle, sophomore attendant Tessa Grass, junior attendant Haley DiMercurio, queen candidate Molly Bahr, queen candidate Sydney Eisenbeis, queen candidate Marysa Flieg, queen candidate Brittney Kreitler, and queen candidate Maci Reynolds. Congratulations to all of the members of the Homecoming Court!

This year, Sloane Basler and Judah Kingery were the miniature cheerleader and football player at the game. Also during halftime, the Ste. Genevieve Marching Dragons performed “We’re All in This Together,” from Disney’s High School Musical, by Matthew Gerrard & Robbie Nevil.

The winners of the week’s various competitions were also recognized during the game. The class who donated the most canned food items was the senior class. Collectively, more than 1,000 canned items were donated! Congratulations to all of the classes for a job well done!

The week’s festivities concluded with a Homecoming Mask-erade Dance, held on the football field Saturday evening. Students worked with administration and the Ste. Genevieve County Health Department to organize this dance using all necessary safety precautions.

The Student Council would like to extend a special thanks to the Ste. Genevieve County Health Department, along with the Ste. Genevieve R-II administration, for their collaboration in planning the week’s events. STU-CO would also like to thank the high school faculty, the Marching Dragons, the Color Guard, the cheerleaders, the Emeralds, DLP Crew, the student body, the class sponsors, and the SGHS custodial and maintenance staff for their terrific efforts in making this homecoming a success.
