Kindergarteners Learn Fire Safety

Kindergarten students at Ste. Genevieve Elementary School visited with local firefighters to learn crucial fire safety skills on October 10th.  Students listened to the book Stop, Drop, and Roll, practiced the movement, discussed the significance of working smoke detectors in our homes, and the purpose of creating a safe meeting place outside the home to meet family members.  Firefighter Justin Donovan, put on his equipment to show the students the different pieces of equipment he uses to stay safe while putting out a fire.  He also stressed not hide in a house during a real fire.

Students were able to “Get Low and Go” through the smokehouse to practice crawling through a house to get outside.  Firefighters, Justin Donovan and Charlie Wibbenmeyer, then turned the fire hose on and showed students different ways the hose can spray water.  The students had an amazing time visiting with the firefighters and learning about fire safety.
