Bloomsdale Elementary Hosts Annual Write to Learn Program

Bloomsdale Elementary celebrated its 2023-2024 student writers at the annual Write to Learn Program held on Monday, April 29, at the Performing Arts Center!

The Write to Learn program began as part of a district-wide incentive grant written by Dr. Joan Wilson in 1990, and it provides our students the opportunity to enhance their creativity as they improve their writing skills. Each classroom teacher selects two winning writings from throughout the year, and the student authors whose works are chosen receive a Write to Learn t-shirt, a certificate, and an anthology book that includes the program’s collection of writings and illustrations from Pre-K to 5th grade at Bloomsdale Elementary. The student writers and their families are then invited to the annual Write to Learn program, where the students step up on stage to read their literary work in front of their families and friends.

We would like to congratulate and celebrate the following students on their writing awards:

  • Preschool: Jaidyn Payne, Laynie Pelfrey

  • Kindergarten: Kyler Mikesch, Madelyn Mentel, Addison Mooney, Wyatt Amsden, Chloe Schwent, Barrett Hogenmiller

Congratulations to fifth grader Liam Venz for designing the Write to Learn t-shirt and fourth grader Grace Warren for designing the cover of our anthology book. We would also like to share a special thank you to Mrs. Guilford for organizing the cover design project.

Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Marcia Nelson spearheads the Write to Learn program and organizes the contest with the help of Supplemental Reading teacher Ms. Lynette Pfaff’. This year’s program was especially bittersweet, as Mrs. Nelson is retiring at the end of the 2023-2024 school year. Ms. Pfaff led a congratulations to Mrs. Nelson from students, families and faculty, and then thanked her for dedicating her time and effort to ensuring that this successful program has continued over the years.
