Ste. Genevieve High School wrapped up its annual Snowcoming activities last week, Jan. 27 - 31. The SGHS Student Council members and sponsors were in charge of planning and preparing the activities for the week.

The group created dress-up and spirit days,, including Merry Monday, Jersey Day, Twin Day, White Out and Flannel Friday. Throughout this week, a group of SGHS teachers selected the Snowcoming court by searching the student body for students who participated in the dress-up and spirit days and showed the most spirit.

The 2020 Snowcoming king candidates were: Nolan Walls, Collin Fritsch, Shaun Uzzell, Austin Kuehn and Matteaus Lacerda. The queen candidates were: Sydney Eisenbeis, Katelyn Fuller, Casey Ayers, Marysa Flieg and Mallory Wolk. From this list, the teachers voted for the most spirited: Shaun Uzzell was chosen as king, and Sydney Eisenbeis was chosen as queen.

At Friday’s pep assembly, the Rolly Chair game returned with a familiar rivalry: social studies teacher Brian Craft versus math teacher Cody Schwent. In Rolly Chair, faculty members play basketball from rolling chairs, as students run them around the court. Craft’s team had been the reigning champion from last year, but on Friday, Schwent’s team stepped up and took the crown with a final score of 10- 5.

The festivities concluded with the 2020 Snowcoming PowderBuff volleyball game, played between the junior and senior boys’ teams, along with a team of faculty members. The senior Blue Team coached by Julia McKlin won the tournament against the junior and senior teams, and took on the faculty team to win 27-25! The senior Blue Team coached by Julia McKlin won the PowderBuff Volleyball Tournament. Members included: Coy Flieg, Dakota Arnold, Keaton Boyer, Austin Bullock, Alex DeRousse, Kobe Hatfield and Julia McKlin
