Bloomsdale Elementary Participates in Great Kindness Week

Bloomsdale Elementary recently participated in the Great Kindness Week Challenge the week of Jan. 27 - Jan. 31. The school participates in the Leader in Me program, and students took the lead for the activities and acts of kindness throughout the week.

Throughout November, December and January, 11 fourth grade students volunteered their recess time to help plan the events. Students shared acts of kindness that inspired them on the daily announcements. They also organized dress-up days and created posters to hang around the school. The students also wrote letters to all faculty and staff at Bloomsdale Elementary and read books to kindergarten and first grade classrooms.

The group of students held fundraisers that culminated in $220 for a family in need, and also funded their field trip where they volunteered at Laboure Exchange, Common Grounds, Ste. Genevieve Care Center and Ste. Genevieve Memorial Hospital.

Through the fundraisers, students could buy tickets to pie a fourth grader in the face or to be Principal for the day. Second grade student Colin Rowland won the ticket to be principal on Friday, Feb. 14.  Mrs. Zuspann attended 2nd grade classes for him that day!

Several classrooms facilitated their own random acts of kindness projects throughout the school, and many teachers gave gifts to other classrooms. Several classrooms produced kindness videos that were shared throughout school, and Mrs. Kerry Dunnigan developed a kindness bulletin board that promotes being the “I” in Kind.
