Hahn Cycles for a Cause

Wade Hahn, a recent graduate from Ste. Genevieve High School and State Wrestling champion, successfully finished his nearly 900 mile cycling trip from St. Louis, MO to Panama City, FL. Hahn’s mission for the grueling journey was to get the word out about depression and suicide. Wade proudly sported his motto, “I’ll Keep Riding So You Keep Fighting” on a bright jersey donated by Cape Cycling.  Hahn talked to a variety of curious spectators and was interviewed by news crews in MO, TN, and FL. His commitment to the mission never wavered, even while being chased by dogs, going through treacherous road conditions, and braving a variety of difficult traffic and weather conditions.

On June 25th 2018, Wade Hahn presented all of the money he had raised in addition to donations for the cause to Community Counseling Center Foundation Board.  Hahn was able to raise $5,500.00. Wade wants to send a huge thank you to  his mom, Erika Hahn, for all the support, the GoFundMe page, and T-shirt sales. His dad, Doug Hahn, for watching his back throughout the whole trip and encouraging him along the way.  SGHS staff and students for their generosity and support, as well as community members who helped support Wade's endeavors.

The Community Counseling Center Foundation will have Wade Hahn as an honored guest at their upcoming Suicide Prevention and Awareness Conference on July 19, 2018. The conference is the largest of its kind in the state of MO and open to the public, oh and it’s FREE. The purpose of the conference is for anyone dealing with suicidal thoughts, educators, counselors, clergy, police officers, and family members of those who have taken their own lives to come together and learn coping tools, discover resources to learn how to identify the signs, and offer hope & healing.

Wade Hahn’s heart, determination, and willingness to speak up about a controversial issue is truly honorable. Thank you Wade, for not only teaching us about dedication and giving back, but also for raising awareness for such an important and widespread issue.
