Habit #3 students pose for a group photo.

Bloomsdale Elementary held their second Habit Leader Ceremony at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2019. One student from each classroom was chosen for demonstrating Habit #3: Putting first things first, Habit #4: Think Win Win, and Habit #5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood. These habits are part of the Leader in Me program, which helps develop students’ leadership skills through proven classroom techniques and social emotional learning systems.

Fifty-two students were honored, and about 220 family members attended the celebration. Each student received a t-shirt and a medal. Scott Drury of Bloomsdale Excavating was the guest speaker, and in his speech, he highlighted the importance of the habits and how they are implemented at his workplace.

The first Habit Leader Ceremony was held last fall, when one student from each classroom was chosen for demonstrating Habit #1: Be Proactive and Habit #2: Begin with the End in Mind. The guest speaker was Tyson Schaffner, who offers the Patched Overall experience at Ste. Genevieve High School.
