Bloomsdale Elementary Kindergarten Class Publishes Book

Recently, students in Ms. Ashley Gettinger’s kindergarten class at Bloomsdale Elementary became published authors through the class’s annual picture book project.

After learning about the writing process, including brainstorming, drafting, illustrating and editing, students created a class book based on the prompt, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Each student designed and illustrated their own page sharing their future dreams.

The class also held a cover contest, with Brecken Wagganer’s artwork selected for the cover of the book. The finished pages were then published into a professionally printed keepsake through Student Treasures.

Students celebrated their accomplishment by inviting families, friends and teachers to a special author celebration where each student read their page aloud and showcased writing work from throughout the school year. The celebration concluded with cookies and drinks to recognize the students’ hard work and creativity!
