Recently, student members of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) created and implemented projects to support our local community. These projects are called STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events, and they are an opportunity for students to build leadership skills and build upon career preparation.
In November, a group of FCCLA students hosted a ‘70s themed party at Riverview at the Park Nursing Center. Students Elaina Schemel, Sophia Derousse and Savannah Derousse created an Alzhimers-focused STAR event project to raise money and awareness for Alzhimers. Students held a bake sale for supplies for their party and for donations to research for Alzhimers.
FCCLA students Kyrah Kreitler, Lydia Vaeth, and Lily Kohler created a STAR event to help provide needed supplies for those without homes to stay warm. The students held a drive at Ste. Genevieve High School and Middle School for t-shirt donations. The students then took the t-shirts to make blankets to donate. The students gathered more than 350 shirts for this project.
Both groups will be competing in March at FCCLA State Competition with their projects!
