Recently, the Ste. Genevieve High School junior class and our French foreign exchange students attended an all-day walking tour of historic downtown Ste. Genevieve and the Ste. Genevieve National Historical Park. Each year, the high school history department is proud to share our community’s unique history and spark relevant connections to students’ lives.
The students and staff split up into groups to tour several historical homes downtown, including the National Park Service properties and the Center for French Colonial Life. The various stops included: the National Park Service Welcome Center, the Jean Baptiste Valle House, the Green Tree Tavern, the Bauvais-Amoureux House, the Linden House, French Colonial America (FCA), the Bolduc House, and the Museum.
During the tour, teachers guided students in small groups downtown and visited places of historical significance and viewed architecture. At each location, students heard from National Park Rangers and community members about local history and discussed French Colonial life, with both German and Spanish influences.
Ste. Genevieve County R-II would like to share a big thank you to: educators Mr. Jason Elders, Mr. Dustin Kueker, Mr. Broc Kreitler, Mr. Blake Moore, Mr. Dustin Schnable, Mrs. Kelly Sulkowski, Mr. Russ Toombs, Mme. Bre Uzzell, Mr. Theoron Viox, Mrs. Danielle Yamnitz; the Ste. Genevieve National Park Rangers; and Geoff Giglierano and Roseanne Ahne from the French Colonial America (FCA).
