FCCLA Members Attend Virtual State Conference & Earn Awards for STAR Events

Members of the Ste. Genevieve chapter of the Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) recently attended the Missouri FCCLA Virtual State Conference. While attending, members heard from keynote speaker Brandon Lee White about overcoming challenges and believing in themselves. Members met the FCCLA Missouri State Officers and also completed virtual challenges during the conference, as well as in-person team building activities with the other chapter members from their school. Finally, the group learned the results of their virtual STAR Events/Competitive Events submissions during the conference.

Due to limitations on travel this year, all competitions were submitted virtually at the state level. Members recorded presentations of their projects prior to the conference. Two members, juniors Drew Newman and Maria Kemper, participated in an online competition, choosing the Instructional Video event. They will compete virtually later this year.

All of the remaining members completed a virtual STAR Event for state competition, with six of the eight advancing to national competition. Freshman Scarlette Gonz earned a silver rating for her Professional Presentation project, and junior Lana Kemper earned a gold rating for her Career Investigation portfolio project. Earning a silver rating and advancing to national competition were freshmen Taylor Armbruster, Alissa Grass, and Hope Schmelzle with their Chapter Service Project portfolio project. Junior Haley DiMercurio earned a gold rating and advances to national competition with her Interpersonal Communication project. Freshmen Anna Bennett and Emma K. earned a gold rating and the top score in their Sports Nutrition, as well as advancing to national competition. The FCCLA National Leadership Conference is scheduled for June 27-July 1 in Nashville, Tennessee. Congratulations to these students on their performances!
