Dragons Host Inaugural Robotics Event, Students Earn Awards and Top Placements

Students recently showcased their engineering, teamwork and problem-solving skills at the first Robotics competition hosted by SG R-II! The event welcomed 21 teams and is part of the SG R-II robotics program sponsored and coordinated by Ms. Crystal Koenig. All teams participate through the same overarching program, allowing students across grade levels to learn, collaborate and grow within a unified robotics experience.

Ste. Genevieve Elementary Teams included:

  • Techno Bots — Owen Rayoum, Ayden Wehner, Bryce Schumer and Oliver Kersting

  • Mechanical Masters — Carter Ochs, Jamison Walk, Relia Woods and Brooke Grither

  • Robo Rockstars — Willa Hogenmiller, Nevaeh Schlueter, Jude Rottler and Mason Hilbert

The Techno Bots earned 5th place in matches and 3rd place in skills.

The Mechanical Masters placed 13th in matches and 9th in skills and received the Innovate Award, which recognizes unique creativity, ingenuity, and innovation in robot design or technical solutions supported by strong documentation and team interviews.

The Robo Rockstars, a first-year team, earned 14th overall and 13th in skills while competing against both elementary and middle school teams.

Ste. Genevieve Middle School Teams included:

  • Big Robofeet — Collin Gegg, Micah Kertz, Miles Ditch and Harrison Weibrecht

  • Penguin Warriors — Kanaan Kwan, Cam Kueker, Lincoln Palmer, Elliot Rayoum and Keaton James

  • Big Robofeet earned 3rd place overall out of 21 teams!

The Penguin Warriors placed 10th overall and received the Create Award, which honors teams whose robot design demonstrates a creative and original engineering solution to competition challenges, along with a clear explanation of their design process in judging interviews and engineering notebooks.

The district congratulates all participating students and thanks Ms. Koenig for her leadership in organizing and supporting a robotics program that continues to grow and connect students across schools.
