This fall, the VFW Post 2210 nominated SGHS teacher Kyle Schweiss for the District 8 Smart/Maher National Citizenship Education Teacher award recipient.
The VFW Teacher of the Year award contest recognizes three exceptional teachers for their outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students. Each year, a certified/licensed elementary, junior high and high school teacher whose curriculum focuses on citizenship education topics can be nominated for the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award.
Mr. Schweiss is instrumental in hosting the annual Veterans Day SGHS Assembly, breakfast for veterans and Veterans Day Parade. Not only does he spearhead the day’s events each year, but ensures that much of the planning and implementation is student-led.
