The Bloomsdale Elementary fifth grade class teamed up with the Ste. Genevieve County Community Center and the Ste. Genevieve Chamber of Commerce to host the fourth and final Betty’s Color Splash 1-Mile Fun Run at Bloomsdale Elementary.
This run was organized in memory of SGHS alumna and former Bloomsdale Elementary teacher Bethany Bequette. The event honors her legacy by supporting a scholarship in her name at Ste. Genevieve High School.
Currently, $8,674.36 has been raised to support eight students in the district through the Bethany Bequette Memorial Scholarship. Each year, a $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a student who demonstrates kindness, inclusivity, and school spirit—qualities Bethany embodied so beautifully.
“Bethany had a unique gift for bringing joy wherever she went, and it's comforting to know that her spirit will continue to inspire and uplift others through this scholarship,” said counselor Amy Rowland.
Students, families, and community members participated in the one-mile walk/run course around the school grounds. Along the route, volunteers tossed bursts of colored powder as participants passed, culminating in a celebratory Color Throw—where everyone joined together to send a final cloud of color skyward in tribute to Bethany.
“Thanks to the incredible generosity of sponsors and volunteers in our community—and a final fundraising push over the past 48 hours—we were able to fully fund this year’s fifth-grade class,” Rowland shared. “We were overwhelmed to receive nearly $2,700 through Venmo in just two days. It was truly moving.”
