SGHS Students Recognized Through Voice of Democracy Contest

Congratulations to three Ste. Genevieve High School students for being recognized through the VFW Post 2210’s annual Voice of Democracy Contest! The theme of this year’s oral essay was “Is This the Country the Founders Envisioned?”

Freshman Madison Travis won first place, earning $200 from the VFW Auxiliary and advancing to the district competition in Farmington. Madison is the daughter of Scott and Kelly Hurston of Bloomsdale. In second place was senior Courtney Rector, who earned $150. Courtney is the daughter of Matthew Martin and Paula Rector of Ste. Genevieve. Taking third place was freshman Alexis Slape, who earned $100 from the VFW Auxiliary. Alexis is the daughter of Kyle Slape and Lindsay Nickolaus of Ste. Genevieve. Each of these students are in Dr. Rhett Oldham’s Topics and Research in History class. Congratulations to all of these students on their excellent submissions!
