Ste. Genevieve Chapter FCCLA Members Compete at National Conference

The Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA)’s National Leadership Conference (NLC) was held June 27- July 2 in Nashville, Tennessee. Eight members of the Ste. Genevieve High School FCCLA chapter qualified to attend the conference and medaled in their events!

Members competed in STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events virtually prior to the conference. The students could attend these events in person or virtually. STAR Events are competitive events in which members are recognized for their proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. Both youth and adults work together in managing the events and serving as evaluators of the participants. Students develop real world skills participating in STAR Events.

In order to advance to the national level in a STAR Event, members first competed at the state level. Haley DiMercurio competed in the Interpersonal Communications event; Adriana Bennett and Emma K. competed in the Sports Nutrition event; Taylor Armbruster, Hope Schmelzle and Alissa Grass competed in the Chapter Service Project Portfolio event; and Drew Newman and Maria Kemper competed in the Instructional Video Design event. Each of the students from the Ste. Genevieve Chapter were awarded a silver medal for their entries. Dr. Tracey Eatherton is the advisor to the Ste. Genevieve FCCLA Chapter.

Events aim to support student development of knowledge and skills by enhancing the classroom experience and career pathway initiatives by equipping students with employable skills and industry insights needed to thrive in the 21st century. Congratulations on these students for their achievements!
