Parents As Teachers Reaches National Center Fidelity Standards

Sept. 24, 2021 – (Ste. Genevieve, MO) - We are excited to announce that our local Parents as Teachers program has recently been recognized by the PAT National Center for meeting fidelity standards! The program’s 2020-2021 APR data has demonstrated fidelity to all Essential Requirements of the Parents as Teachers model.

“While our program consistently surpasses the requirements of the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), the PAT National Center standards are more difficult to meet,” says Dr. Teresa Green, Director of Student Services. “Our Parents as Teachers program has been working diligently toward program fidelity, and under the leadership of coordinator Bethany Koetting, and through the hard work of our trained parent educators, Kimber Basler and Angela Lewis—they have reached their goal!”

The Missouri Parents as Teachers (PAT) Program is a voluntary parent education program offered through the Ste. Genevieve County R-II School District, serving families who are expecting a child or have children under the age of kindergarten entry. PAT helps to establish positive partnerships between home, school and the community and plays a vital role in supporting families and children from the very beginning toward school readiness. A trained parent educator provides home visits with families to promote early learning, knowledge and understanding of important developmental milestones. Periodic screenings increase parents’ understanding of their children’s developmental progress, as well as inform them of any possible delays. Early intervention for identified concerns helps improve school readiness for young children.

Our Parents as Teachers program offers free, year-round community developmental screening for all children in Ste. Genevieve County ages 3 months to 5 years old. Call PAT at 573-883-4500 ext. 2424 to schedule an appointment.
